5th Grade

Dear Parents,
Here is a update what your children have been learning so far this secular year.
From the Explorers Bible they learned:
Birth of the world, Good and Evil in the garden of Eden.
My brothers keeper,
The man who walked with G-D (Noah),
The impossible Tower,
Abraham finds his way,
Abraham speaks up,
The Sacrifice,
Rebecca's kindness,
The Sacrifice that included our holiday of Rosh Hashanah.
The children did word searches , puzzles and other activities about the lessons.
We had many discussions about what they learned so far.
The next lesson will be 'Twins ,Tricks and Troubles.'
We are working hard on the Hebrew lessons some children had trouble with the sounds of the vowels.
So we took some time to go over them and the exceptions. .
They are learning the V'ahafta prayer.
The goal is that they also learn: Sim Shalom. Avot v'Imahot and G'vurot.
There is a very cool website (linked below) where they can click on a sentence and hear each word in Hebrew. For those who are having difficulty it would be wonderful if they could use that for practice at home.

Hello Parents!
My name is Yoka Bazilewich and I will be your child’s 5th grade Religious School teacher. I was a teacher for many years in Texas and also here at Beth El. It has been my pleasure to teach many different classes.
For several years I was a teacher in kindergarten and third grade . I loved teaching beginners Hebrew to the children in third grade. For a teacher it was a thrill to see that they were learning and loving it. I also have been a teacher in fourth/sixth grate in Texas. For several years, I helped children who were having difficulties learn Hebrew one on one.
This year, we will be learning 4 new prayers: V’ahavta, Avot v’Imahot, G’vurot, and Sim Shalom. Your child will be asked to review what we have discussed and learned in class during the week. Encourage them to practice! It is important to reinforce what we are studying in class at home. Practice with them!
For Judaica, we will be discussing many of the stories from the Torah. Some of which your child may be familiar with already, but we will be going into a more in depth discussion than in previous years, and covering new stories. I am sure that I will be learning from the students as much as they will be learning from me! With each story I hope that the children will also be discussing with each other what they know about that subject.
If you have any questions throughout the year, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me at
373-9882.
I am looking forward to a fantastic school year!
