Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Welcome to the Mini Wizards Page. Here you will find information about the Hebrew Wizards and our class of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten Beth El Religious School students...The Mini-Wizards! Through our weekly playtime, stories, music, movement, arts and crafts, we will look forward coming to Beth El and learning about Judaism together. The Hebrew alphabet will be introduced along with vocabulary words, prayers, and concepts. Our fabulous madrachim (the Teen Wizards) will lead activities with me, based on their interests, as they fulfill their community service obligations. It is our mutual goal to focus on their safety, full participation, and group and individual social skills. And, we LAUGH together every time we meet!!
October 2016
We are focusing on the Holidays and the meaning of each holiday for our lives. Vocabulary words are Shana Tovah, Slicha, Sukkah, Torah, Ketchet and Mitzvah...I teach these as "Happy New Year", "I'm sorry or Excuse me", hut or booth, the scroll (with Jewish laws, teaching and instructions), rainbow and good deed. New letters are Samech, Tav, Resh, and Koof. We will make decorations for the Sukkah and fruit salad among other activities. So far this year, the Shabbat Box has been taken home by Ronan, Zoey, Sydney and Lucy. Rex is scheduled to take it home on Oct. 23!
Welcome Letter to Parents
Dear Parents,
I am returning to teaching after a long hiatus pursuing my advanced educational preparation and my career as a public school teacher, administrator, and college executive team member. I hold degrees in elementary education and intellectual disabilities, state endorsement in the instruction of the gifted, and advanced degrees in elementary curriculum from JU, educational leadership from UF and in the design of curriculum and instruction from Louisiana State University.
Post-retirement in July, 2014, I focused on the health and well-being of my family and friends. It has been many years since I taught religious education and I am so excited! And teaching primary age children is my special favorite!
We are fortunate to have Alyssa Goldman and Sydney Leiser as our madrachim…they are returning in the role and we have already decided we will make quite a team! Our success as a team will be achieved if each class your child has fun, learns something new, and has the opportunity to contribute their opinion or idea to the group.
This year, the Beth El Religious School will introduce the “Hebrew Wizards Curriculum” for Pre-K and K. Our group will use the Mini-Wizards, which is built on a learning centers approach (Book/Holiday, Arts and Crafts, and Hebrew), to deliver the weekly concepts. I will be providing a learning goal for each day of our religious school calendar, beginning with August 21, 2016.
If you have any concerns/questions or wish to provide information about your child that would make his or her learning experience the most positive possible, please contact me at [email protected] or text me at 904.234.3591. Let me know if you would prefer a return phone call or if text or email is best for convenience.
We are looking forward to meeting and greeting you and the children!
Christine Arab, Alyssa Goldman and Sydney Leiser
